The Collector
By: John Fowles (adaptation by Mark Healy)
Company: Vivid Theatre Company

Frederick Clegg is obsessed with Miranda Gray. He is repressed, introverted and unloved. A collector of butterflies and a keen photographer. She is a beautiful, privileged art student. When Frederick wins the pools he buys a remote farmhouse and abducts Miranda. Having imprisoned her in his cellar he discovers the reality is far from his fantasy and their tense, claustrophobic relationship leads to a devastating climax. John Fowles’ classic novel is a superb psychological thriller that is by turns sad, tense and horrific. Vivid return with their acclaimed production of this classic, relevant story (described as ‘the highlight of the theatrical season’ - ARC) that was first presented in spring 2007. Vivid have since gone on to great acclaim with various productions including the Arts Council funded ‘Sexual Perversity in Chicago’; ‘Our Country’s Good’ & ‘Woyzeck.’
