The Jigsaw

By: Carrie Bird and the group

Company: Flying High Youth Theatre

The Jigsaw is a play within a play and explores adolescent issues today through the lives of ten young youth theatre members as they rehearse the play 'Spring Awakening' (a play written in 1891 by Frank Wedekind also concerned with pubescence adolescence but in a repressed society). Each piece of jigsaw/person has its own story to tell but their achievement as the pieces fit together to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival fills each member with a real sense of pride as they grow in understanding of themselves and each other. This is a devised play which combines music, dance and many styles of theatre, both naturalistic and abstract to communicate a story that resonates with young people growing up in the 21st century.
