Paradise Green Fringe 2008

Launched by Paradise Green Promotions as a Fringe venue in 1998, Augustine's is a lively and popular venue with a reputation for award-winning theatre. 

Augustine's is also conveniently situated within the conservation area of the Edinburgh World Heritage Site and the idiosyncrasies of the tower and its unique 3-tier octagonal spire are an unmistakable part of the Edinburgh skyline.  The imaginative and unconventional architecture of Augustine United Church is a perfect accompaniment for Fringe theatre. 

Augustine's is a working church which is transformed during August to provide two unique theatres and a coffee bar.

At street level the Sanctuary is a large and beautiful theatre while on the lower level the studio provides a more intimate atmosphere. Both spaces can seat over 100 people.

There are 3 low steps outside the building and a ramp is available for wheelchair users upon request. Once inside the building there is step-free access for patrons of both spaces.

The Vault is our exciting new venture. Opened in 2007 as a brand new performance space in the vaulted basements of Augustine United Church, it has become a beautiful and atmospheric venue.

Although architecturally part of the same building as our Augustine's venue, owing to the idiosyncratic way Edinburgh's old town is built, The Vault has a completely different postal address and access. 

Tucked away next to the back entrance to the Sheriff's Courts, The Vault is a purpose built space. Unlike most Fringe spaces which are only open in August, from late 2008 the Vault will open as a year-round performance venue available for hire.

The architectural features of the space have been incorporated into the design, making it an interesting venue for performers and audience alike, whilst the permanent nature of the conversion means that facilities and comfort are of a standard not usually found in a Fringe Venue.

The Vault hosts a single studio theatre with an intimate atmosphere, seating 42.  The Vault has a street level entrance and a lift for those patrons with reduced mobility.

New for 2008 is a new space for the Vault - The Annexe. This is another small studio theatre seating 40 in the neighbouring basement. Because the building is listed and the venue is temporary we have been unable to make this space fully accessible. There is a short set of wide steps to negotiate but we can provide assistance upon request.
